The best ideas usually start by asking a simple question.
Is there a better way? More than 20 years ago, that’s exactly the question we asked ourselves.
Traditional building has produced some outstanding homes, but it also comes with challenges. Weather and travel can interrupt progress, every site brings its own complexities, and maintaining consistency from one build to the next isn’t always easy. We believed there was a smarter way to build. One that gave homeowners greater confidence, supported flawless quality and created an environment where skilled builders could consistently produce their best work.
That belief became Exceed Homes. From the beginning, our focus wasn’t simply on building transportable homes. We set out to rethink the way homes were built by investing in smarter systems, better planning and a process that consistently delivers exceptional quality. Faster delivery has always been a natural result of that approach, but it has never been the reason for it. Quality has, and always will, come first.
Today, it’s exciting to see more builders are moving into off-site construction. Kitset homes are becoming increasingly common, and recent changes allowing homes up to 70 square metres to be built without building consent have opened the door to even more innovation. Suddenly, people are talking about smarter ways to build.
We think that’s fantastic because a stronger off-site sector benefits everyone. Homeowners have more choice, builders gain access to better ways of working, and healthy competition encourages all of us to keep lifting the standard of what we deliver. That’s good for our industry, and it’s good for New Zealand.
Helping pioneer off-site construction was never the destination. It was simply where the journey began. Over the past 20 years we’ve continued to challenge ourselves, investing in better systems, refining the way we build and learning from every home that leaves our yard. We don’t see innovation as something you achieve once. It’s a mindset that asks, every single day, “How can we make tomorrow’s home even better than today’s?”
That’s the culture we’ve built, and it’s one we’re incredibly proud of. We value curiosity as much as capability because the people closest to the work are often the ones who see the greatest opportunities to improve it.
