The Southland company has been building homes this way for more than 20 years, developing a model that allows its team to construct multiple homes from its Invercargill site before they are transported to their final location.
Now Exceed Homes is looking for third year apprentices and qualified builders to join the team. For a builder, working at Exceed is quite different from moving from site to site.
The team works from one site where the materials and resources they need are close at hand. With several homes under construction at any one time, builders can move between projects as required. If weather stops work on one house, there is often another at a different stage where work can continue under cover.
It is a model Exceed Homes owner Jade McNamara believes has real advantages for the people doing the building.
“We have been building homes offsite for a long time, so we know this model works. Having several homes underway gives our builders variety and keeps the work moving. For our apprentices, there is also a lot to learn because they are surrounded by experienced builders and can see different stages of construction happening around them.”
While more businesses are now entering the offsite building market, Exceed has spent decades learning how to do it well.
That experience matters.
